Vintage Espresso
"If frankie made a cafe, this is what it would look like."
These are the wise words of frankie ed Lara, who recommended Vintage Espresso to me as the best place to go for coffee on the coast. Naturally I was instantly intrigued by the idea of a caffeine-meets-kitsch combo, having found disappointingly few such eat-n-browse options in Brisbane. (I have also long had the idea of filling this gap in the market myself, so if anyone wants to ‘invest' in my vision, please do drop me a line)...
But back to Vintage Espresso. Just as Lara promised, this place certainly does not disappoint. From its chic glass exterior and minimalist signage, you already know you're in for something special, and things only get better when you step inside its doors to a sunny little world of retro wallpaper, antique mirrors and chandeliers and knick-knacks in every corner. While the interiors alone are enough to entice (with furniture and displays rotated every month!), the real icing on the cake is that the coffee's actually really good - as is the tempting little menu of deli sandwiches, sweet and savoury treats, and, of course, actual cake. (The service is also sweet as pie).
Sure, it's on the coast, but as you will no doubt find out in our tinygold guest edit next week, pockets of culture have well and truly hit the GC, so you'd be wise to make a day of it.
