It's been just over a week since Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised to the indigenous population of Australia. It's neither here nor there for us to tell you our opinion on the matter. However, we do reserve the right to suggest places and things for you to do which may or may not be appropriate for celebrating significant milestones in Australian history. These milestones also may or may not have occurred just over a week ago.
With the principles of objective journalism in mind, we suggest that next time you feel you require some advance Australia fare check out Tukka. It is one of the few restaurants in Australia specialising in Australian native cuisine. Furthermore, and being careful of not falling into Dr Brendan Nelson's trap of quoting statistics, Tukka has won enough awards to back up its claim of being Australia's finest specialty restaurant.
Pick from an assortment of Aussie meals, including paperbark-roasted crocodile, emu and lentil warm salad and rack of kangaroo. Top it off with a lilly pilly and macadamia salad (with lemon myrtle dressing) or a home-made damper. Round off the meal with a glass of Australian wine or an Australian beer to really raise a glass to your homeland.
Its produce is sourced from all over Australia, with over half coming from within Queensland. From indigenous meats (allowing you to eat the coat of arms) to wild berries, Tukka has pretty much everything covered. It's the right place for something a bit different and it's a way of demonstrating national pride without being a mother tukka.
