As a one-time employee of the establishment I can say with confidence: Tongue & Groove is a gem of place. As laidback as it is vibrant, as trendy as it is grunge, this is definitely one of our city's coolest cafes. On weekend mornings it's a thriving community hub, positively bustling with locals out to grab breakfast and catch up. The breakfasts are definitely worth getting into. Fry-ups and eggs of all varieties; as well as bagels, frittatas, poached fruit, pancakes and much more, all generous portions at very reasonable prices.
As evening descends, the café transforms into a quaint restaurant/bar, with live music acts performing downstairs most nights. It's a great way to get initiated into the local music scene, with the majority of shows free and drinks much more reasonably priced than most other nightspots. The atmosphere is chilled out, relaxed and welcoming: the flickered darkness swimming with lots of beautiful people tinted golden in the half light.
A drink or two later, you might even fall in love.
