I nearly fell over myself when I realised The Bowery had yet to be featured in FourThousand. How could the greatest cocktail bar in Brisbane not yet be mentioned on the postcode map?! No surprises to any regular, but The Bowery is not just the best bar in Brisbane, it's the best in the land of Oz; winning this years' Bar of Year competition, according to some fancy bar and gourmet magazines and if it counts for anything, me.
If a really good drink is what you're after, there is plainly nowhere else worth mentioning on Ann St. The Bowery pride themselves on tradition, all drinks served adhere to the oldest and therefore original recipes. They press all their citrus juices daily and their first pour spirits are all top-shelf, and their solemn oath is to never, ever serve pre-mixed drinks.
Taking its name and cue's from the infamous street in New York City, known for its speakeasies and gin joints during the Prohibition. The Bowery has a certain zazazu, it oozes class and has this sleek, jazzy vibe. The timber and raw brick walls rub up against the plush furnishing just the right way, and the drinks will certainly rub you up the right way too. We recommend the Vodka Espresso for dancing into the wee hours and the Presbyterian, served long and best sipped in the shadows.
