As we know, the streets in the CBD are named after royalty. From Sugar 'n Spice's window, you can see down busy Adelaide Street (named after Queen Adelaide). Born in 1792, Adelaide was pretty cool; before she married King William... he was known throughout the kingdom as a bit of a douche bag. Adelaide smartened him up: he gave up the drink, swore less and became more sophisticated and tactful. Which is exactly how I felt sitting in the front window of Sugar 'n Spice Café.
As I sip my latte, I'm (tactfully) people watching. I'm swearing less. I'm hardly being a douche bag at all. In fact, I'm feeling more cultured than I have in ages. Lodged between Edward Street and Anzac Square, this place has an excellent reputation for quality coffee and good looking baristas. Yep, it's ridiculously popular with those in the know. In the morning there's the takeaway regulars, rushing in on their way to work. At lunch there's the shoppers and office workers, and in between it seems that Sugar 'n Spice is becoming the place for Brisbane's hipsters to linger over a house-roasted coffee.
