From morning to midnight and back again, EAT/DRINK is FourThousand's guide to cafes, bars and restaurants in Brisbane. We know the best coffee because we drink 20 a day (each), we know the good restaurants because we can't cook, and we'll tell you where to find hidden bars and other places that still let you smoke so that we can ask you for a cigarette when you get there. EAT/DRINK is as voracious as our appetites and a much better filter than our livers, which stopped working a long time ago. Email your EAT/DRINK suggestions to: talk@fourthousand.com.au
The IKEA Restaurant provides a unique dining experience which some gourmet diners may find a little intimidating on first impression, but the emphasis here is on simplicity and minimalism. The restaurant décor is a European influenced, industrial-post-modern affair in which functionality and efficiency reign over the more subtle comforts.
Huddled between one of Brisbane's busiest thoroughfares and one of Annerley's most uninspiring alleyways, Dudley Street Espresso and Collectables is a unique little café. Like the name suggests, this is the perfect spot for anyone who takes their macchiato with a side of retro, is into killing numerous birds with few stones, or simply thinks that pleasing two or more senses simultaneously (in this case sight and taste) is a nice way to spend an afternoon.
The next time you think about saying, "Brisbane needs more culture", first ask yourself where Eritrea is? Stuck for the answer? Well, then it's you that needs some culture, my friend, and you can get some by visiting Mu'ooz Restaurant.
For the unacquainted, Eritrea is a West Africa country bordering Ethiopia and Sudan, and to get your cultural fix you're going to have to acquaint yourself with burgeoning Moorooka, aka ‘Little Africa'.
So, apparently this place is legend to kids who grew up on the inner South. Being one of them, I feel surprised I never knew about it. To be honest I actually feel a little left out, now knowing all the $1 milkshakes, hotdogs and doughnuts I could have consumed - although my waistline is probably thankful.
