In world affairs, Cuba has rarely been a country to follow suit. Revolutions, enigmatic leaders and CIA involvement have ensured this little nation plenty of headlines across the world.

South Brisbane's Paladar Fumior Salon is similarly conspicuous. Set within a strip of drab industrial buildings, the allure of the Cuban cafe's bright red shop front is unmistakable.

Inside, owner Filip Pilioras can be found behind his espresso machine preparing cups of delicious Cuban coffee. Tasty snacks and imported Cuban cigars are also popular draw cards. The cafe itself is amazingly decked out with assorted Cuban handicrafts, a cute little courtyard and, best of all, a rooftop terrace.

So no need to book that ticket to Havana just yet. Instead, stop by the Paladar Fumior Salon for a little slice of Cuba, right here in Brisbane.
