Remember the days when we had to forage for our own beans, grind them with our bare hands then simmer them over an open flame just to get a caffeine hit? Neither do I - that was like four thousand years ago. Yes, the modern procedure may be less complicated (and less physical, thank God) but coffee drinking is still an art, albeit one where the context in which we sip often overrides the contents of our cup.
Thankfully, there are still some survivors who believe in the doctrine of ‘no frills coffee'. From a little white-walled, sparsely decorated grotto atop a hill on the city fringe, Lucky Duck Espresso is spreading the word. The good stuff flows freely courtesy of organic merchants, BlackStar Coffee and accompanying nibbles like ciabatta served with classic spreads (none of that iSnack 2.0 business) are made fresh. Throw in some friendly banter with staff and soothing space-pop and you have yourself a café that puts the beans before the bucks.
