I was introduced to this place last year by some of the lovely staff from 4ZzZ radio. From the outside it looks like a simple hotel lying along St Pauls Terrace, but inside it is so much more. Each week the lovely students from Shafston College cook up a delightful three course meal and serve it with all the trappings you would expect. The menu changes each week and contains fancy things like Chicken Galantine with Paw Paw Chuntey, Sweet Lip Pauplettes in a White Wine Beurre Blanc served with Apple, Diced Vegetables and Duchess Potatoes. And for dessert(!) Strawberry Bavarois served with Sauce Anglaise and Biscotti. I had to ask what some of these things were, but the students are always totally sweet about it.
The best part of this three course finery is the price. You get your choice of entree, main and dessert all for $14.50. The food is delicious, the menu interesting and the aspiring Martha Stewarts do a really fine job! Furthermore, if you think the meal was cheap, the drinks are even cheaper. All sorts attend each night, from the people who look like they can afford three course meals daily, to lowly students and chuffed locals who have opened their taste buds to this secret gem. Don't forget to book a table though, otherwise you might miss out.
Oh and I almost forgot - Friday night they do super cheap and super delicious cocktails! Winner!
