King Ahiram's
Where:
88 Vulture St, West End
When:
7 days
How Much:
Falafel rolls $3.50, everything else not much more!
When that guy died with a falafel in his hand, I'm pretty sure it was one from King Ahiram's. Not that falafel rolls from King Ahiram's kill you - not by any means. It's just the only place any sane human being in Brisbane would go to get one.
If you haven't been there yet, you should be disgraced calling yourself a Brisbanean. This place is like a heritage landmark in our city; its shopfront and signage so unchanged over the years that its phone number is still printed from the time before we got the ‘3' squished at the front of every landline. Luckily for us, their prices are also still rocking '96-style, rising only about 20c in over a decade so that almost everything on the delicious Lebanese menu still sits on the right side of $4.
For me, it's always a nostalgic experience - the place where my father would treat my brother and I to half a kebab and a Turkish delight back in grade 5, when West End was still full of ethnic delis and single mothers, and plastic tables and chairs crowded the footpaths.
Thankfully at King Ahiram's, they still do. Wobble on baby, wobble on.
