Remember when you used to be able to get a seat at Alibi Room's Taco Tuesday? Remember? It seems like a distant memory now, with all the long queues and moshpit-like crowds, ever keen to get their gold coin dinner and place within New Farm's hottest nightspot. Recently however, some friends and I dared to leave the hailed Alibi and search for somewhere else... Surely there was some place - some mythical, magical, other place - where one could get a $2 dinner that didn't involve a trip to the Nightowl microwave?

Well, we found it.  And only a few doors down, actually.

Within its brightly-lit, badly-tiled doors, Johnny's Pizzeria serves up everything Italian and carbalicious - pizza, pasta, an assortment of breads. The service is swift and the food is actually really good value. With large pizzas from less than $10, share with a few friends and whammo - you've got yourself a $2 dinner kids!

The best thing about Johnny's is you don't have to feel embarrassed about doing this either. It's casual, chilled out, endearingly-dodgily decorated; the sort of place where you feel like you can chat loudly, eat messily and sit with your legs folded up under the table. Amidst the strip of exotic New Farm restuarants and cocktail bars, it's almost the equivalent to eating in front of the TV.  And sometimes, that's exactly what you're after.
