I once knew a girl who had never heard of a friand, let alone tasted one. ‘OMG,' I proclaimed, 'you're soo missing out.' Friands are like muffins only better. Almost a cross between cake and muffin, these dream cakes are super moist from their almond meal and egg white base (no flour here) - so as you can already begin to imagine, the friand is simply a superior baked good.
The next thing I did was march this girl straight down to Jocelyn's for a raspberry friand. She never looked back and neither will you. Now Jocelyn's ought to be forgiven for being the kind of place where stuck up New Farm biddies line up for the finest in high-tea treats - but you can't blame them, it really is the best.
Jocelyn makes premium pastries, cakes, tarts, slices and preserves. From savoury to sweet your heart will skip a beat: lamb and rosemary pie, chocolate sour cream cake, passionfruit cupcakes, good ol' fashioned bar cakes in about 10 different flavours, and tarts so sour your face will squint up just like the botox grannies next in lines used to.
But if you only try one thing, let it be the friand: the muffin of tomorrow.
