While Australia Day might be over, it doesn't mean we have to stop celebrating this country's greats. But forget Stephanie Rice and Mick Dobson for a moment - let's talk about Billabongs.

These little ice cream treats are an Australian classic, but one that can easily be eclipsed into the background by their louder and obviously more-well-funded competitor: the notorious Paddle Pop. While Lick-A-Prize has certainly been tempting at times, for me there's never been a choice - Billabong has always been the one. And with good reason. They're cheaper, for a start. They have nearly half the fat and calories of Paddle Pops (a well known fact among 15-year-old girls in tuckshop queues). AND they actually taste better. Chocolate? Delicious. Rainbow? Heaven. Caramel? Teeth-rottingly good.

But perhaps most importantly, they have remained so unchanged for so many years it's like revisiting a little piece of your youth hidden inside that wrapper. The first lick tastes of so many car trips, hot summers, days at the pool, birthday treats, primary school playgrounds and so much more...

So treat yourself before the summer ends and indulge in a forgotten innocence. For only $1.20, it's the best therapy around.
