Entering Batavia Teahouse is like stepping into the first scene of The Secret Garden: a grand Eastern palace full of exotic treasures and woody, spicy smells. This popular South Bank café/treasure-trove combo truly delivers 'the wonders of the East' with its range of decadent furniture, amazing wooden birdcages, old-fashioned stationery and opulent china. Then there's the tea!  You can choose between a bountiful loot of amazing flavours - try the beautiful chrysanthemum tea flower; it actually blooms in your very glass. There's not much in terms of 'heavy' meals, but there are plenty of delicious accompaniments like scones, savouries, and cakes available.

However, it's hot drinks that are the real speciality of Batavia. While I've not been brave enough to try the king-size Affogato (about six scoops of ice cream drizzled with hot coffee), the Café Au Lait and Vanilla Chai are truly deserving of the phrase 'to die for'. Served in soup-sized bowls, and with separate warm milk jugs for your own personalised pouring, you will not only feel as classy as royalty but as well-sated too.

Overall, the perfect tea party for boys and girls.
