I have to admit that I sometimes get a bit intimidated by these new world coffee shops. I find myself fumbling for coins as the long queue shuffles impatiently behind me. Then stuck trying to find a seat amongst the congregations of business suits that fill the room.
Independent suburban cafes, however, are usually a much more relaxed affair. Wander down in your pjs on a Sunday morning for some breakky and a caffeine hit. Chat with the owner, pat a neighbourhood dog, you know, that kind of thing.
If you find yourself near the river in West End, we recommend Alberto's Shot Espresso Bar. The coffee is good but definitely given a run for its money by the Italian hot chocolate on offer. A menu of breakfast items, sweets and snacks will also keep your belly happy.
