Dear Brisbane Curry-Goers,
Please leave my favourite Indian haunt alone. It's out of the city, the service is ordinary and the interior's pretty run of the mill. The walls are so orange they could easily be repainted from regurgitated Butter Chicken; that's assuming anyone would be silly enough to part with it.
Let's be real here, ever since Slumdog Millionaire won an Oscar, the West has been obsessed with all things Indian. Darjeeling Chai tea, Sari's, that funny little bop to the Tunak Tunak Tun on YouTube and now, it would seem, an unassuming family restaurant known as A Night In India. Yes I know the food is epic. Like, best Indian in Brisbane epic. Like, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, mild right up to super hot epic. It's the kind of Indian food you know your bowel movements are more than safe from, but surely that's not why it's being invaded?
Some of you Westernites are flocking there like Indians to a cricket ground and frankly, I resent you for it. My little Jalfrezi gem has been discovered, and the prices have been jacked-up accordingly. Now, when I crave my beloved Tandoori Chicken Tikka, I have to pay a whole $12.50 instead of $11. It's a travesty. I mean come on, if India wasn't "cool" most of you would be eating somewhere with some ambience instead of gorging on some luscious lamb Rogan Josh, flagrantly infused with ginger and spices. So please, just leave it alone. Rent some Bollywood movies or something. I saw the joint first!
